Solaris Optics uses MRF® technology

As part of an EU-funded investment programme, the machinery at the optics plant was expanded to include a Q-flex 300 MRF polishing machine from QED Technologies (Rochester, USA). This machine is based on the magneto rheological finishing method. It is used for high-end machining of optical surfaces. In particular, very good shape accuracies of spherical surfaces and high flatness of planar surfaces are achieved in a deterministic process.

The diameter of the optical components can be up to 300 mm. In addition to flat and spherical surfaces, light aspheres are also possible.

Realised examples :

Flatness (PVr) : up to λ/80 @ 633 nm

Irregularity (PVr) : up to λ/40 @ 633 nm

rms roughness Rq : 0.3 – 0.4 nm

Solaris Optics has successfully established the technology and supplied the first substrates to the astrometry sector. This success has earned the company a place in the elite 100 club of companies using MRF® technology and SSI metrology.
